Spring is in the air...

Hi guys,

I am dreaming of spring at the moment and the fact that the SS12 collections are entering the stores at the moment is not helping at all! I am drawn to all the pretty colours of SS12, I want to put all my black clothes back on the closet for next fall and dress in colourful outfits.

I am so not over colourblocking yet and I am definitely going to colourblock my way into spring and summer.

I would love to put on this outfit and and sit on an outdoor café in the sunshine.

Stone collarless jacket - Dorothy Perkins // Coral Jeans - ASOS Curve // Yellow shopper - Decadent Copenhagen // Green balloon sleeve blouse - Dorothy Perkins // Green pointy pumps - ASOS

I think that, when you colourblock, it is good to throw in some neutrals as well and this spring I will definitely be using stones, nudes and beiges to give the coulourful look a softer tone.

I am absolutely in love with the yellow shopper bag from Danish brand Decadent Copenhagen! I do not think I can meet spring without it. It would be so perfect for mixing with both blacks and greys and with colours. I also think that beige and yellow is absolutely perfect together (I am already putting hundreds of outfits together in my head featuring that yellow bag ;-)).

Another musthave for me this season is a pair (or two or three or four) of coloured skinny jeans. The coral jeans from Asos Curve is fabulous, but I am also considering a pair of pink (let me know if you find a good pair) or cobalt blue.

Oh, spring, please come soon!

Copenhagen Fashion Week: The Trends

Hi guys,

So this week was Copenhagen Fashion Week. Unfortunately I did not attend any of the big runway shows, but I have made a little summary of my favorite trends for A/W12 anyway.

The Danish designers agree: we still love leather, lace, big knits, mustard yellow and entering the fashion scene again: bright red. Also we still love both mint and maxi lenghts.

By Malene Birger

 Chunky knit and feminine lace

 Mint maxi dress

Curve hugging pencil skirt and lace detail
Gestuz

Short pleated leaher skirt (for us plus size girls: leathercult.com is the place to get this style. They custommake leather clothes for all sizes)

A leather maxi skirt, how fab is this! Want it!

Rützou

 Red maxi dress

Mustard top and shiny navy palazzo pants. (Love this colour combination!)

Day Birger et Mikkelsen

Draped leather jacket. (I will NEVER get tired of a good draped leather jacket!)

Copenhagen Fashion Week: Lab27 by Carmakoma Launch Party

Hi guys,

Yesterday was the best plussize event in the Copenhagen Fashion Week (ok, it was probably the only one, but either way, it was great!): the Lab27 by Carmakoma launch party.

The new Carmakoma sublabel is an inclusive label that ranges from size EU34 (UK4/US2) to EU54 (UK26/US24). I love the idea that all women regardless of size can wear the same clothes! And what a great collection it is! It has the edgy, sleek sillhouettes that is Carmakoma's trademark, it has a lot of black though with a pop of colour (this time red! Can't wait till August 2012 when it hit the stores!).

At the event, where I went with 3 other plussize bloggers: Rikke of Sticky Sweet Danish, Ditte of Marilyn's Closet and Tanja of Miss Cherry Lipz, we had a chance to chat with the Carmakoma designers: Heidie Lykke and Angelica Weiss. They are very dedicated and I really admire their drive to make great designer clothes for the curvy body.

We also had the opportunity (once we had played the fashion blogger card and pushed our way to the backstage area) to get up close with the models and feel the rich beautiful fabrics. Both the clothes and the models looked fabulous. Watch out for these beautiful ladies: Maja Volmark and Line Mikkelsen.

All in all we had a great night filled with fun, fa(t)shion and free drinks ;-)

The looks for the first Lab27 collection! I want it all!

Beautiful red lips on Maja Volmark and Line Mikkelsen (I can't wait to get my hands on Line's jacket it is a very nice bouclé Chanel-ish quality)

Drinks (ok, maybe not the most posh fashion blogger beverage, but I love it ;-)) and clutches.

OOTN - by Malene Birger

Hi guys,

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get an invitation to a fabulous fashion week event; the launch of Carmakoma's new sublabel Lab27. The clothes are of course beautiful, as you will see from the pics I wil be posting later this weekend. And the philosophy behind the brand is great. A line that is inclusive rather than exclusive. So stay tuned...

For the event I wore black, something I have done a lot lately. But this time I decided to spice it up with a splash of colour.
Black draped jersey dress - By Malene Birger // Torqouise suede shoes - ALDO // snake skin clutch - ALDO // Necklace - Pilgrim // Arm cuff - H&M // Leaf ring - Gina Tricot // Nailpolish - Depend

I know I have said this time and time again, but it can never be repeated too much: just because you are a plussize it does not mean that straight size labels are off limits too you. You just need to find the generous brands and the styles that you can make work. By Malene Birger is a Danish designer brand, it is really beautiful clothes, very feminine and flattering to curves. The larger sizes are quite genereous and I can (depending on the style) often fit into an XL (EU44/UK16/US18) which is their biggest size.

I still think that all brands should go higher, but until that happens (yeah right! ;-)) I will do my best to make it work anyway. I don't want to limit myself when it comes to fashion!

My colourful home

Hi guys,

I thought I would show you a few pictures of my apartment and how I have decorated. As much as I like black, grey and muted tones in my wardrobe I really LOVE surrounding myself with a lot of colours in my home. I want it to be fun and colourful, I want beautiful things with a hint of homour that makes me smile even in the cold dark months.

I live en a beautiful old apartment building with crown moldings and light hard wood floors. I moved in just over 2 years ago.

Dinning room:

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will have noticed the flowery wall where I do my outfit posts. It belongs in my dinning room. A fun bright place loving know as "the garden room". Bet you can guess why ;-) I love the bright combination of green and pink. Such a happy place.

This is the view from the living room through the french doors (which I have removed to make the space more open).
Living room:
Here is a couple of details from the living room. As you can see the bright colours is repeated all over the house :-)

Corner with a fun clock and a cute little cupboard.

Blue Buddha lamp (I have a thing for buddhas)

Homemade art in bright colours (hanging over my sofa)

 My family wall

A corner with a morroccan tray table with colourful tealight candleholders
and a lamp made out of shells

Close up of the moroccan tray table

Bedroom:
My bedroom is dominated by a giant wardrobe (what else??? ;-)) You can just see the corner in the mirror. Otherwise I have keept the bedroom girly and romantic and it is the place with the least colours. Although I did manage to get a little pink in here and there.

Full length mirror (a MUSTHAVE!) and an old chair I have pimped with silver paint and pink velvet fabric.

Silver accents and the Virgin Mary

Another Mary ;-) The beautiful Marilyn Monroe hangs over my bed to remind me that curves are beautiful.

Carmakoma SS12

Hi guys,

Have you had a sneak peak at the Carmakoma SS12 collection? It is fantastic! Maybe their best collection ever! And finally, my prayers has been answered: they have included leather. A great leather jacket and a leather skirt. I MUST have at least the jacket! It is balck and drapey, so made for me! ;-)

I couldn't find any blog'able pictures of the leather jacket, but you can see it in the SS12 look book here it is called Louvre.

I really like that they have a big selection of jackets and light coats in this new collection and they have used a little bit more colours than all balck. Don't get me wrong I LOVE black, but for summer it is nice to add a little dash of colour.

Here are a few of the styles:
I really like the Germain jacket as well. I do have a weakness for good jackets :-)
